Katowice and the Upper Silesian Metropolis are applying for the title of European Capital of Culture 2029 under the slogan Play! Play! is an invitation to rediscover that culture is an inexhaustible source of energy and positive emotions. An essential part of our lives that makes us fully human. Play! is an opportunity to experience together, but also to create. We want to involve as many residents of the Upper Silesian and Zagłębie Metropolis as possible in the game. Because the rule of Play! is cooperation. Only in this way will we achieve one of our goals – better interpersonal relations, improvement of social trust, greater integration of female and male residents of the Metropolis. Our playing field will be the entire Upper Silesian and Zagłębie Metropolis. Play! will help us get to know it better, understand it and adapt it to the expectations of female and male residents. Play! will only come true if we follow the principles of fair play. Therefore, our candidacy is based on the principles of accessibility and equal treatment. Finally, Play! is an attractive program of activities. Taking advantage of the strongest assets of Katowice and GZM, including intense musical life or amateur creativity. Open to phenomena hitherto marginalized, such as video game culture.
